The work comprises eleven chapters, an Introduction, index of variations and players, and a bibliography.
Chapter 1 deals with rare second moves where Black declines the King's Gambit such as 2…Qf6, 2…d6 and 2…Qh4+!?
Chapter 2 deals with the Falkbeer Counter Gambit 1 e4 e5 2 f4 d5
Chapter 3 is the Classical Defense 1 e4 e5 2 f4 Bc5 3 Nf3 d6 4 Nc3
Chapter 4 is rarer lines of the King's Gambit Accepted such as 3…Ne7 and 3…f5
Chapter 5 looks at the Kieseritzky Gambit 1 e4 e5 2 f4 ef4 3 Nf3 g5 4 h4 g4 5 Ne5
Chapter 6 the Becker Defense, 3...h6 and the author recommends 4 b3 and backs it up with lots of analysis!
In Chapter 7 he advocates 4 Bc4 against the Fischer Defense, 3...d6.
In Chapter 8 he looks at 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 Nc6!? which apparently has no name!
Chapter 9 the Schallopp Defense is met by 3 Nf3 Nf6 4 e5 Nh5 5 d4 with a White advantage in all lines.
Chapter 10 the Cunningham Defence 3...Be7 contains a wealth of original material on his recommended line of 4 Be2!?
Chapter 11 is devoted to the Modern Variation 3...d5 where he goes for 4 exd5 Nf6 5 Bc4 and warns that Black might get a dangerous Scandinavian!
This is an excellent repertoire book, the author ignores less aggressive or over aggressive and discredited lines and wherever possible has selected sharp sidelines gleaned from some standard but also obscure sources. Although the book is 10 years old, the theory of the King’s Gambit does not move too much but be sure to check all the sharp stuff with Fritz just in case.
